Background of TELL YOUR STORY:
The purpose of this section of my blog is to foster a sense of community with people from all around the world. It’s a space where guests on my site can share their answers and unique perspectives to a couple of life’s important questions. By doing so, they share a piece of their personal story. My hope is that you, the reader, will find value in this community. Whatever stage of life you’re passing through, whatever is on your mind, whatever you may be stuck on, I hope you find some inspiration from the TELL YOUR STORY series. Happy reading!
Introducing today’s guest: Neil
What inspires you?
What inspires me is being aware of how much more potential we all have as humans. When I discover someone’s story about positive change and growth, it fires me up and adds lessons to learn from for my own life story.
What excites you?
What excites me is to come across like-minded people who are driven to improve their lives and stay positive. Learning new things (skills, viewpoints, hobbies, cultures) also excited me because it allows myself to expand and grow.
What’s your personal philosophy?
I have a few personal philosophies, and they each tend to work with one another. One of the main ones is to find the good in every situation and keep moving forward. We can be our greatest friend or enemy. There is so much more to the world and ourselves than we tend to acknowledge, and we get a taste of that expansion when we move out of our comfort zones and push ourselves to improve and explore. Find meaning in everything. Envision your life as a story, and you’re the hero.
What advice would you give someone who is currently feeling lost or purposeless in life? What helps you or has helped you before in these situations?
The advice I would give someone who is currently feeling lost or purposeless in life is that the feelings they are experiencing are normal. In fact, it’s a sign that you’re thirsty for direction and purpose! Give yourself more credit for the life you’ve lived so far. And if you can’t, focus on a better tomorrow. Become better by connecting yourself to something bigger than yourself (family, friends, ideals, philosophy). Pick something, stick with it for some time, and see where it takes you. Lastly, be receptive to the beauty that’s around us at all times and within yourself! The less we get distracted and the more we meditate on what is good, the more we see the beauty that surrounds us. Realize that you have the power to INSTILL beauty in everything and everyone.
Have any specific books/podcasts/videos/social media accounts/people had a significant impact on you and your outlook on life? If so, what would you share with others?
If you’re looking to improve your life, I highly recommend Atomic Habits by James Clear. Make Your Bed by William McRaven is also a great little book on how to improve and get better.
A few podcasts that I enjoy: Tim Ferriss, Jocko Willink, Hardcore History, Joe Rogan.
Videos: Les Brown’s videos are FIRE. Check him out.
Tell me a bit about your story– what is a part of your story (or your identity) that has most shaped you as a person?
The greatest changes I’ve experienced in my life were outside my comfort zone, whether that’s been in a foreign country, a position of responsibility, or a feeling of being lost. In all those situations, I was forced to face the reality and became more aware of the power within me, as well as the beauty around me. Whatever the future holds, I believe there is ALWAYS an opportunity for growth and expansion of myself.
